SpamAssassin Hosting
Your YoHost account includes SpamAssassin, one of the best tools
for blocking unsolicited email. You can enable or disable
SpamAssassin using your control panel.
YoHost specializes in website hosting, but you can use our service
for email even if you don't plan to have a website.
You will need your own domain, such as your-name-here.com,
and you can purchase a domain from YoHost for $15 per year.
How does SpamAssassin work?
SpamAssassin uses a sophisticated battery of tests
to assign a "spam score" to each piece of mail.
If the spam score is above 5 (or some other value that you
select), the email is tagged by adding *****SPAM***** to the subject line.
Then you can use Outlook Express filters or other software
to deposit the spam mail into a separate folder.
Can I change SpamAssassin's behavior?
Yes. Your account will include a user_prefs that
can be used to do any of the following:
Blacklist an address: This tells SpamAssassin that mail
from a given address should always be tagged as spam.
Whitelist an address: This tells SpamAssassin that mail
from a given address should never be tagged as spam.
Modify required_hits: The "required_hits" value is
simply a number that represents the minimum spam score
for a message to be tagged as spam. You can make SpamAssassin
stricter by decreasing required_hits, or increase it to make
SpamAssassin more lenient.
Change scoring method: You can assign any score
to any of SpamAssassin's tests.
This is not recommended for most users.
